A whole-hearted shoutout to Shoutout LA! A few months ago we were approached by Sarah hailing form Voyage Group, who offered to conduct an interview with us and feature a story about Project Rotate on their website, which we of course were thrilled to do. Fast forward to last week and voila:

A brief explainer. Voyage Group is a parent agency that Shoutout LA is part of and what they do is pretty amazing – Specifically Shoutout LA. Their mission is to promote small businesses doing creative things. These ventures tend to be very artistic, but due to their diminutive size (a lot are one-two person operations) typically have limited outreach to the public at large. This is where Shoutout LA steps in – through their Local Stories rubric, they help tell the world about these small outfits (much like us here at Project Rotate) and spread the word about what we do and who we are. This is fantastic for all sorts of creatives in three ways :

First of all, perhaps most obviously, PR. Any specialist running their own operation will tell you that good outreach is worth gold. And there’s hardly a more effective way to do it than with the help of a publication that’s a favorite with other folks working in creative industries.

Secondly – the resulting article is a very personable one. The questionnaire that Sarah sent us was equal parts technical and personal, ranging from nuances of how we operate this business and navigate the market, to (my personal favorite) an exercise where you’re asked to envision a fictional tour of your city which you would plan for someone who has never been. The result is not only a synopsis of how things are going, but also a little bit about you as a human person with preferences, likes and dislikes, and your own idea of what a fun time on the town is!

Third, and this is just as crucial – it’s a really cool way to not only gain exposure to potential customers, but also get exposed to other artists, craftsmen, designers, and all sorts of creative folk, that are striving to get their name out there much like us. Each with their unique story, craft, and product. And would you know it – they’re all available for you to check out in a single sitting – behold:
